Abstract

The application of soft rf pulses in 2D spin echo and quadrupolar echo NMR experiments is discussed. The objective is to measure the homogeneous linewidths of the different single-quantum transitions in systems with large quadrupole splitting where nonselective (hard) rf pulses are not available. The distortions introduced by soft pulses are discussed, and new strategies, in particular new phase cycles, are proposed to avoid them.
