Abstract

In this paper, the DOA estimations employing the compact antenna arrays in the presence of the mutual coupling effect is discussed. In order to obtain the accurate DOA estimations, a new mutual coupling calibration method with the name of the element pattern reconstruction method is used to calibrate the receiving signals of the antenna array. A mutual coupling calibration matrix due to the new method is obtained by the reconstruction of the element pattern. The new method has a wide adaptability for the element structures and can provide the more accurate calibrations of the mutual coupling mutual effect. The compact UCAs with six dipoles are designed to carry out the DOA estimations. The receiving signals of the array are imported to the MUSIC algorithm after being calibrated by the new calibration method. It is shown that the new calibration method is very effective and the DOA estimations with high accuracy can be obtained.
