Abstract

1H Knight shifts in Mg 2NiH x and MgH x have been accurately determined by use of high-speed magic-angle-spinning NMR, which can reduce the line width caused by bulk magnetic susceptibility and dipole-dipole interaction. The shift values were −10.7 ppm. −4.1 ppm, 4.6 ppm and 0.9 ppm from neat tetramethylsilane for α-Mg 2NiH x , β-Mg 2NiH 4, α-MgH x and β-MgH 2 respectively. Deuterium dilution applied to β-Mg 2NiH 4 successfully reduced the dipolar line width, and no isotope effect was observed in the shift.
