Abstract

Close-coupled scattering calculations of binary diffusion and shear viscosity coefficients have been made for HH 2 mixtures. Cross sections obtained from these scattering calculations give directly the binary diffusion coefficient in its lowest kinetic theory approximation. Additional data are required for the calculation of the shear viscosity. Appropriate cross sections for pure H 2 have been obtained from experiment, while those for H have been calculated. Binary diffusion and viscosity coefficients have been calculated for HH 2 mixtures for the temperature range 40–2200 K. The value D H 2H = 2.13 cm 2 s −1 obtained at 295 K is in excellent agreement with experiment.
