Abstract

In recent years position tracking technique which is cost efficient and suitable for indoor environment has got more attention. So in this paper a new positioning technique which is presented based on inertial measurement units (IMU) is introduced. The position estimation is given by double integration of acceleration measurements from IMU. For improving functionality of this method we propose an automatic threshold to identify gait phase in walking movement. Moreover in order to improve the accuracy of vertical distance estimation, we provide walking type classification. Experimental results show our position tracking approach achieves 94% accuracy in position estimation and improves the accuracy especially in Z-axis direction (nearly 100%) regarding to previous works.
