Abstract

A new simple and straightforward method for the analysis of the experimental photonuclear yield data in the giant dipole resonance region has been developed and is presented here. This is called the “yield data smoothing” method. The process to obtain the smooth curve to fit the given experimental yield data is carried out by the best-fit polynomial approximation (BFPA) under the convergence condition which is determined by the statistical accuracy of the data. The smooth cross section curve is induced by the yield data smoothing method. The usefulness of the present method has been tested using the trial yield data generated from the test cross section functions. The accuracy of the photon-difference method has been investigated through the solutions for the various yield functions.
