Abstract
Surface geostrophic winds are related simply to observed surface winds (Figure 1) and pack ice motion in the central Arctic (Albright, 1980; Thorndike and Colony, 1982). Their prediction, therefore, assumes special importance for sea ice forecasting, air and marine navigation and offshore resource exploration and development.
