Abstract

Accuracy of blood glucose monitoring have been associated with morbidity and mortality. Portable blood glucose meter (PBGM) is one of the blood glucose monitoring tools that nurses in intensive care units tend to use. However, critically ill patients should not be tested by PBGM because the results may be inaccurate. there are the related-PBGM definitions examination requirements, risk assessment evaluation protocol and accuracy comparison between PBGM and central laboratory devices (CLDs), blood gas analyzers (BGAs), which lets the intensive care staff know the PBGM′s limitations and applications and give some references for regulations and rules on blood glucose monitoring.
