Abstract

We have been studying about nickel and cellulose nano-fiber (Ni-CNF) composite plating to provide functionality for Ni plating film used widely industrially. The aim of this study is accuracy assessment of the quantification method of CNF in nickel film using image analysis which has some accuracy issues reported in our previous study. Quantification analysis by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis with fundamental parameter method and by the image analysis method with binarized backscattered electron (BSE) images of film surface were conducted to obtained Ni-CNF composite film. From comparison of both results, it was revealed that CNF content ratios in film (codeposition rate) investigated by both methods have different trends. It seems that this result proceeds from morphology difference of the inside and the surface of film. Furthermore, investigation of suitable magnification of the BSE image for image analysis was carried out, and it was clarified that magnification does not affect quantifying results seriously. Based on results obtained by XRF analysis, the calibration constant for image analysis method was determined according to CNF concentration in plating bath.
