Abstract

Abstract Simazine, especially from granular application, accumulated in hay mulch residue under apple trees and reduced soil contamination from this herbicide. No marked build-up of simazine occurred in the soil. Simazine residues in soil ana mulch caused injury or death of EM VII rootstock, particularly after application in granular form. Simazine in mulch had little influence on microbial populations. In soil, granular simazine increased numbers of bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes in the spring.
