Abstract

In the aqueous humour and the corneal epithelium of rabbits, the ascorbic acid levels were investigated using the photometric assay with 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol. After injection of 300 mg/kg body weight of ascorbate, the aqueous humour ascorbic acid levels were slightly elevated, showing the well-known saturation kinetics. In the corneal epithelium the ascorbic acid levels were increased by twice the amount of that of the aqueous humour. The significance of an ascorbic acid therapy in corneal diseases is discussed
