Abstract
The object of this paper is to examine the extent to which the Japanese American family has retained a number of the characteristics which are associated with the family system in Japan. Interviews were conducted with 299 individuals in three generations of Japanese Americans. The evidence indicates that while considerable acculturation has taken place, even the third generation of Japanese Americans still retains certain characteristics of the more traditional Japanese family system.
