Abstract

This paper aims to understand the influence of the different types of workforce commitment on the innovation capability of software entrepreneurial enterprises. This paper is set in the high technology industry and focuses on Indian small and medium-sized enterprise engaged in software development. The innovation capability of a firm is being represented by a set of measures that have been selected from various sources to create a fairly complete set of measures. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey of 121 software firms across India. It was found that employees’ commitment, specifically the affective commitment, had a positive influence on the innovation capability of software entrepreneurial firms. The findings suggest that the owner/managers of software firms can enhance the innovation productivity by ensuring the affective commitment of the professional by adopting certain policies and practices conductive to creating a supportive organisational environment.
