Abstract
This chapter provides a general overview of the mechanisms for accreditation and recognition of qualifications in higher education in the United States. It introduces the role of some main actors in this field of accreditation, such as the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the United States Department of Education (USDE).
