Abstract

In their meta-analysis, the Childhood Trauma Meta-Analysis Study Group 1 Childhood Trauma Meta-Analysis Study GroupTreatment efficacy and effectiveness in adults with major depressive disorder and childhood trauma history: a meta-analysis. Lancet Psychiat. 2022; ([Prod: please update when known].) Google Scholar highlight that patients with major depressive disorder or elevated depressive symptoms with a history of childhood trauma have an improvement in symptoms after pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments that is similar to patients with major depressive disorder without childhood trauma. Although these results are very important and encouraging for clinical practice, we should be cautious in their interpretation. Treatment efficacy and effectiveness in adults with major depressive disorder and childhood trauma history: a systematic review and meta-analysisContrary to previous studies, we found evidence that the symptoms of patients with major depressive disorder and childhood trauma significantly improve after pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments, notwithstanding their higher severity of depressive symptoms. Evidence-based psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy should be offered to patients with major depressive disorder regardless of childhood trauma status. Full-Text PDF
