Abstract

I would like to call your readers' attention to a potentially serious problem involving the use of "toddler tension gates." Recently, a 9-month-old infant patient of mine was found with his head wedged through the slats of such a gate. The infant was gasping for breath and had slumped against the gate. The child's father was finally able to free the infant's head from the gate by using heavy wire cutters on the wooden slats.
