Abstract

Lund, J., 1984. Accidental falls at work, in the home and during leisure activities. Journal of Occupational Accidents, 6: 181–193. A study of accidental falls was carried out, especially with regard to falls in the home and during leisure time. Other falls were reviewed through literature studies. The study is based on about 4500 falls on the same level (of which about 1500 were slipping accidents) recorded in hospitals in 4 Nordic countries during the years 1977–1980, when collecting details of home and leisure-time accidents. The total number per year and the distribution of accidents are anticipated for the Nordic countries from accidents which were treated in hospitals (in- and out-patients). Falls on the same level and slipping accidents are analysed for their main characteristics and a number of preventive measures are suggested.
