Abstract

Abstract Signalized intersections remain among the most common elements of street and road networks and types of traffic control. This is due to the fact that traffic safety at controlled intersections largely determines road safety in cities in general. However, the Russian Federation does not have a suitable and practical method of assessing the level of safety at signalized intersections. The statistics (75 annual values of accidents) show an increase in the level of accidents at signalized intersections by several times in comparison with the figures observed in the 1980s. The authors propose an adjusted scale of levels of accidents at signalized intersections.
