Abstract

This paper outlines the algorithm behind the Safety Board’s kinematics parameter extraction code. The Metrojet flight 2710 incident will be used as an example of the use of this method when control surface deflections were not recorded. The study of this incident also provides a comparison with the conventional simulation method. The Alaska flight 261 accident illustrates the use of the kinematics parameter extraction method when the recorded stabilizer parameter had exceeded the sensor range. This accident also illustrates the adaptation of the basic kinematics code to calculate loads on the stabilizer jackscrew.
