Abstract

The author raises seven questions being considered by the Organization of American Historians in order to determine whether or not it should reconsider its position on codes of ethics, especially with respect to access to and use of confidential materials. She then mentions pitfalls to avoid in adopting codes of ethics and discusses recent trends in historical research methodology and materials.
