Abstract

Reaction of 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IPr) with MnCl2 in presence of tris(3,5 dimethyl-1-pyrazolyl)phosphane in toluene under thermolytic condition afforded a four-coordinated Mn(II)-NHC-phosphane complex, 1 which represents an unprecedented example of Mn(II)-NHC complex having a phosphane unit attached to the abnormal position (C4) of NHC. Compound 1 has been characterized by mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and 31P NMR spectroscopic analysis. The molecular structure of 1 has been unambiguously characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Further, its experimental magnetic moment value of 5.7 μB indicates its stable sextet configuration (S = 5/2) which was further confirmed by DFT study.
