Abstract

Summary This case study documents the development of the Greenbelt Venture program, a 10-week, youth leadership program providing youth from underserved neighborhoods in Staten Island, NY access to the local forest from the viewpoint of the educator. The case study discusses a unique pedagogical approach that centers equity and access to meet programmatic goals. The case study offers critical reflections on the development process and success metrics that enable the educators to overcome challenges and yield similar qualitative results as other comparable outdoor adventure programs despite the inner-city location.
