Abstract
Ladies and gentleman: This is a great honor. I feel very lucky to have a career as a geologist, especially in economic geology. It was Rick Sibson who pointed out to me that geology is the most exciting thing you can do with your clothes on. He’s right. The many interesting geologists with whom I have shared company with and the many extraordinary places I have visited have been my reward. To be the recipient of this Silver Medal is extra special. I have some people I want to acknowledge, but to keep it short, the list has been trimmed to represent a small group of unsung heroes. These are the geoscientists who have influenced my work in powerful ways over the years. Before I do, I want tip my hat to two well known gentlemen, Jeff Hedenquist and Noel White, who opened doors, made introductions, guided me in the field, reviewed my work, supplied a surfeit of edits, and shared passionate discussions about epithermal deposits and ore-forming processes.
