Abstract
President Hedenquist, distinguished guests, members and friends of the Society: Thank you so much to SEG, to Council and to those members who supported my nomination for this wonderful honor. Thanks also to John Thoms for those very kind words of introduction. John has been one of my great mentors over the past three decades or so, not only in terms of volunteering for SEG, but also in my professional career while I was at Anaconda and for many years since that time. I know I’ve got a lot more to accomplish before I could come close to walking in John’s shoes. Jo Kalliokoski at Michigan Tech, then business manager for Economic Geology , introduced me to the SEG. A few years later, when I moved to Vancouver, Vic Hollister became a strong influence, not only by example but also by encouraging me to support the local BC and Yukon Chamber of Mines, now AME BC, by joining the Education Committee and teaching the Prospector’s School.
