Abstract

There is a strong liking for educational information in the social media that do not favour effective agricultural communication in Africa. The public audience of agricultural information in Nigeria are non-compliant to the formalities in the social media, thus agricultural trainees should be familiar with spectrum of media use for specialized agricultural information. This study determined issues of print media usage for agricultural studies in higher institutions of South-West Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling procedure was used to select 264 students in terminal classes in public higher institutions for the study. Data were analysed using percentage distributions, mean, chi-square, correlation and regression tools. Agricultural books (=2.20) were mostly accessed above other print media. Applicability and comprehensiveness of agricultural information in print media (=1.62) were relevant attribute of print media use among students. Increased access to print types and sex of students determined students’ willingness to use print media. Willingness to use the print media will be enhanced if accessibility and applicability of content to all areas of agriculture is ensured Opportunities in fliers and posters should be maximized for agricultural information to increase print media acceptance and use among students in higher institutions.
