Abstract
The paper summarizes the rationale and the objectives of Partitioning and Transmutation (P&T) research and technology development activities. It then provides overviews of both the various nuclear fuel cycle options and the transmutation technologies (with particular emphasis on ADS), as well as a brief worldwide summary of the main research and technology development efforts in the field of ADS.
