Abstract

Experiments have confirmed the ability to reduce the acceleration sensitivity electronically for both BAW (bulk acoustic wave) and SAW (surface acoustic wave) resonators. The authors describe the compensation technique, and give experimental results for resonator units. Several types of SAW and BAW resonator based oscillators have been tested, all of which show large variations in the sensitivity coefficient over their tuning ranges. Data obtained for an L-band SAW-resonator-based oscillator, which shows a 20-fold improvement in the sensitivity coefficient with electronic tuning are presented. Even greater effects have been seen in BAW-resonator-based oscillators. >
