Abstract

Abstract : Acceleration sensitivity continues to be a significant problem is SAW oscillators. Reducing acceleration sensitivity of SAW oscillators requires an understanding of the nature and causes of acceleration sensitivity. One aspect of this is the correlation between acceleration sensitivity and the transverse mode behavior of SAW resonators. This report discusses the experimental investigation of such a correlation. A 98.5 MHz SAW resonator, for which the transverse modes have been previously measured at various frequencies, was mounted in a VCO and submitted to acceleration sensitivity tests at the frequencies of known transverse mode behavior. The VCO was designed in-house specifically for this investigation. The experimental results indicate that the acceleration sensitivity ot SAW resonators does not strongly depend on the transverse mode behavior. Acceleration sensitivity; mode shape; surface acoustic wave oscillator; voltage controlled oscillator.
