Highlights Action of fluctuating loads leads to the formation of the surface deformation relief. The intensity of the surface deformation relief indicates accumulated fatigue damage. The surface relief at the initial stage of the metal fatigue is extremely informative. The initial rate of the damage provides the possibility to construct a fatigue curve.
