Abstract

Low-cost and reliable design optimization of antenna structures using adaptive response scaling (ARS) is presented. Our approach involves variable-fidelity electromagnetic (EM) simulation models. Nonlinear frequency and amplitude correction is applied to the low-fidelity model to create a fast surrogate which is iteratively rebuilt and optimized within the trust region framework. By exploiting correlations between the EM models of various fidelities considerable reduction of the design optimization cost is achieved. A demonstration example of a dual-band patch antenna is provided. The ARS performance is favorably compared to direct optimization of the high-fidelity EM model.
