Abstract

The wide-spread non-metamorphic shales of the Ruyang Group (1150-950 Ma) in southern Shanxi, China contain abundant and well-preserved acritarchs and filamentous microfossils, suggesting a shallow-marine depositional environment. Acanthomorphic acritarchs obtained from both the Baicaoping Formation and the Beidajian Formation of the Ruyang Group include Shuiyousphaeridium Yan, emend. and a new genus Tappania Yin Lei-ming, gen. nov. In addition, Shuiyousphaeridium macroreticulatum (Du) Yan is emended and two new species Tappania plana Yin Lei-ming, sp. nov. and T. tubata Yin Lei-ming, sp. nov. are described.
