Abstract

In China, academic hegemony has to be tacitly approved. “Study on Unconventional Emergencies Management (SUEM)”, a nationwide Major Research Plan financed by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), is studied in this paper. It offers a case of observation and reflection of the academic hegemony in China. This study is based on the data of the funding and the network of the research groups. According to statistics, more than a hundred SUEM projects and huge investment were held by a few research groups in a few cities. It is likely that the conceutration of china s research projects are not associated with the social demand or research capacity, but it is controlled by the decision-making experts. The academic hegemony may be an important link of the Chinese academic corruption chain.
