Abstract

The education on medical physics and engineering in Poland was started by Maria Sklodowska-Curie in years 30th of the XXth century. The biomedical engineering specialization at the level of graduate degree established in Telecommunication Faculty of the Warsaw University of Technology in 1946 was at the time the first regular academic course of electromedical engineering in the world. The development of new technology in medical diagnostic and therapy caused the need for a new approach to biomedical engineering education. The Biomedical Engineering program was developed accordingly to legal regulations including national standards for academic teaching by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and to the guidelines of Bologna Process (including the Educational Credits Transfer System). The postgraduate education program for specialty of Medical Engineering is being implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Health. The three levels (BSc, MSc., PhD) education program in biomedical engineering and postgraduate education program in medical engineering are realized at Warsaw University of Technology.
