Abstract

In 2007, the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) developed a list of Eligibility Requirements and Essential Functions for students interested in the field of speech-language pathology (Schwartz et al., 2007). Based on this comprehensive list of skills and attributes, the graduate program at Georgia State University developed a core set of characteristics for speech-language pathology students. The list focuses on skills and attributes students should demonstrate prior to the start of a graduate program in speech-language pathology. This article summarizes the process used to develop the list and discusses the importance of institutions creating unique lists for their respective programs.
