Abstract
With the rapid expansion of the gaming industry since the early 1990s, and the need for more professionally trained employees as a result, an increasing number of educational institutions have started to introduce casino operations and gaming-related courses in their curricula. In hospitality academia today, there is a concern about the quality of the gaming education programs. This study investigated the current stage of the gaming education programs offered in four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. and revealed that there exists some discrepancies between academia and the gaming industry in recognizing what gaming topics are deemed important in the classroom and in the field. Eliminating these discrepancies is the critical step to enhance the overall quality of the gaming education programs in the U.S.
