Abstract

We present low frequency (0.1 mHz to 0.2 Hz) ac susceptibility measurements using a vibrating sample magnetometer (PAR) with a modulated external magnetic field. An on line mini computer (DEC PDP 11/03) subtracted frequency dependent apparative offsets from the signal and performed a Fourier transformation leading to a real and imaginary part of the ac susceptibility. Measurements at the phase transition from the antiferromagnetic to the ferrimagnetic phase in Dy 2O 2SO 4 B ext ≈ 1.7 T) yielded relaxations at these low frequencies with exponential temperature dependence.
