Abstract

Recently, the resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using YBCO coated conductor (CC) has been developed in many countries. Since CC has many advantages such as high n-value and high Jc compared with BSCCO tape, CC is useful to develop the resistive SFCL. The important thing for the operation of the SFCL is to reduce the AC loss like transport current loss and magnetization loss. Although the bifilarly wound magnet is a non-inductive coil, the transport current loss will certainly be produced by self-field when the AC current flows through the CC tape. A measurement of AC loss should be essential for the commercialization of the SFCL. In this paper, the transport current loss of the bililar magnet using CC is measured by the electric method and the calorimetric method and compared with Norris equation because inductance of the bifilarly wound magnet is very small.
