Abstract

AbstractThe paper proposes a new pulse‐width‐modulation controlled AC/DC current source GTO converter circuit. The circuit operation and its performances are investigated. This converter has low harmonic content and does not require any reactive power from the AC power source. An active power filter with capacitive and inductive storage is used for these purposes. A linear variation and a wide control range of the DC output voltage of the converter versus relative connecting duration are also obtained. Such a converter can be efficiently used to get a static frequency converter with direct current link, which can drive an induction motor with adjustable voltage and frequency.
