Abstract

SummaryA survey was undertaken to find out which anorectic drugs were most commonly prescribed by general practitioners in the South East London area and what were the side-effects regarded as 'pleasant' or 'unpleasant' by patients. Analysis of data from 330 questionnaires and 527 case records from over a 10-year period of patients attending a Soft Drug Clinic indicated that the stimulant anorectic drugs produced, on the whole, pleasant effects including more energy, feeling of well-being, etc., and were the ones found to be most frequently abused.
