Abstract

Background & Objectives: The LMA flexibleTM (LMA Flexible; Laryngeal Mask Co. Limited, Seychelles, Singapore) has been widely used for head and neck-related surgery and dental surgery. In this study, we compared two insertion techniques for LMA flexible. Materials & Methods: A one hundred and sixteen adult patients undergoing breast surgery were randomized to the two insertion techniques(standard technique vs 90° rotation insertion technique). The ease of insertion was assessed by the success rate at the first attempt. Heart rate and mean blood pressure were recorded 1 min before and 1 min after insertion. Postoperative complications were checked. Results: The first-attempt insertion success rate was 93% for the standard technique and 98.3% for the rotation technique (P =0.2) in Table I. There were no statistically significant differences in hemodynamic variables and complications between the two groups (Table II).Table II.: Insertion and Intraoperative variables. Conclusion: Our study suggests the 90° rotation insertion technique has not advantage compared with standard technique of digital manipulation in LMA flexible.
