Abstract

Background & Objectives: This mobile application is based on the training package developed by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists that works with health workers to: Improve pain knowledge. Implement a simple framework for managing pain. Address pain management barriers. The essential pain management “RAT” is an important part of the course. RAT stands for Recognise, Assess, Treat and provides the framework for managing a variety of real-life pain scenarios. Materials & Methods: The development of the EPM Mobile App was influenced by The increasing use of smartphones and reliance on medical Applications at the point of ca The R-A-T algorithm of the EPM program facilitates a stepwise use of the applicatio Personal interviews of potential users in LMICs revealed that features such as the logbook and formulary will be helpful The App would then be produced for iOS and Android platforms initially. Results:Evaluation A beta version of the App was tested by 6 experts via an online survey. The points for testing were as follows 1. Recognisability of the App on the App Store 2. Page to page progression- forwards and backwards 3. Locating specific sections 4. Formulary- detail 5. Ease of use 6. Manual – ease of accessing specific sections 7. Logbook structure 8. Logbook usefulness This assessment is ongoing. So far, the responses have been without exception, postive. Some comments have been made about App structure. Conclusion: The EPM Mobile seeks to aid in the management of pain, especially in resource poor settings. It is based on the well recognised Essential Pain Management programme run by ANZCA. It includes means to assess pain and includes a logbook and other resources. It is being continually evaluated but early indications suggest that it will be a valuable tool.
