Abstract

Aims & Objectives: Amiodarone is an anti-arryhtmic agent used for treatment or ventricular arrhythmia. Such agent has adverse effects on many tissues and one of the most significant adverse events is pulmonary toxicity. Methods The toxicity may develop any time after onset of the treatment; the risk is dose- and time-dependent. Results Amiodarone is an anti-arryhtmic agent used for treatment or ventricular arrhythmia. Such agent has adverse effects on many tissues and one of the most significant adverse events is pulmonary toxicity. The toxicity may develop any time after onset of the treatment; the risk is dose- and time-dependent. Clinical and laboratory findings are nonspecific. Amiodarone is disconitnud for treatment. Corticosteroids may be started for severe cases. The present case who referred to pediatric emergency medicine department because of hemoptisia, dizziness and confusion were followed-up due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and treated by amiodarone because of ventricular arrhythmia for two years. Findings at the referral were considered as pulmonary toxicity induced by amiodarone. Amiodarone was discontinued and corticosteroid treatment was started;non-invasive mechanic ventilation was applied for three days and the patient was transferred to the pediatrics ward at eighth day of admission. Conclusions The aim o f the present case report was to draw attention to amiodarone-induced pulmonary toxicity.
