Abstract

During percutaneous AV fistula creation, deep venous embolization is recommended to encourage superficial venous flow development. Typically, deep venous embolization is performed retrograde to the anastomosis and before formation of the fistula, so as to not cross the newly formed anastomosis potentially disrupting it. However, the safety of crossing past the newly formed fistula has not been established. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of antegrade deep venous embolization after creation of the AV fistula.
