Abstract

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations for the release of patients following administration of radioactive materials states that patients can be released without instructions if the total effective dose equivalent (TEDE) to the maximally exposed person is less than 1 mSv (100 mrem). This study's purpose is to estimate the maximum possible radiation dose to other individuals from patients treated with Y90 hepatic radioembolization, to identify patient/procedural factors contributing to higher contact TEDE and to determine if it is necessary to provide patients with instructions on how to minimize dose to contacts.
