Abstract

There are exception handling mechanisms in most agent-based systems, which are basically implicit and do not fit for agents in efficient cooperation. So, constructing explicit exception handling policies can solve that problem. We define the concept of exception handling policies. Exception handling policies are a subset of conversation policies. Exception handling policies only deal with exceptions when agents are communicating. We divide exceptions into two types: conversation and non-conversation. There are three subtypes in the conversation exceptions, which are structural exceptions, logical exceptions, and language exceptions, and we give their related handling policies.
