Abstract

Abstract Growing recognition of the adverse impact of lymphedema on quality of life of survivors of breast cancer has motivated efforts to identify alternatives to axillary lymph node dissection. In some patients who have positive sentinel lymph nodes, radiation therapy may provide a more tolerable alternative to ALND without compromising disease control. This session will focus on the results of the key randomized trials directly evaluating this question: AMAROS and OTOASOR, as well as the implications of other trials that can help to identify patients in whom de-escalation of axillary surgery appears safe.
