Abstract

Abstract Traditional healers are the primary health-care providers in the rural Bangladesh and the medicinal plants or plant parts administered by different traditional healers can vary widely. It is important to gather this information because both such knowledge as well as medicinal plants is getting lost as an influence of modernization. The present study was to conduct an ethnomedicinal survey amongst the traditional healers in Gazipur district of Bangladesh. Extensive interviews were conducted of the traditional healers and medicinal plants as pointed out by them were photographed, collected, deposited and identified at the Bangladesh National Herbarium. It is important to conduct scientific studies on these medicinal plants towards discovery of lead compounds which can be used for prevention of all forms of cancer.
