Abstract

A helium mass spectrometer leak detector is simply a helium partial pressure gauge, combined with a supporting vacuum system for maintaining a suitable operating pressure. Although calibrated normally in std cc/sec the readout is accurate only when testing small devices directly connected to the leak detector. Locating and measuring leaks in large systems and small hermetically sealed devices are discussed. The use of pressure probe techniques will also be covered.
