Abstract

Disturbed eating behaviours (DEB) encompass extreme dieting behavior, binge eating attacks, and compensatory behavior for weight control and can have a potentially life-threatening impact on the health status of affected individual. DEB are frequent in type 1 diabetes and are associated with remarkable impairment of metabolic control. However there is less data regarding the prevalence of eating disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and that too with variable results. There is hardly any data regarding the disordered eating behaviours in subjects with T2DM in the Indian state of Punjab which has the prevalence of diabetes around 10%. This study was done to evaluate the prevalence of DEB and their association with glycaemic control and metabolic parameters in adult subjects with T2DM in Punjab.
