Abstract

Background and aims: To provide evidence on establishment of nurse specialist in our hospital. Aims: To understand the PICU nurse specialist medical staff awareness, expectations of the current situation in order to explore the necessity and feasibility of jobs created for PICU nurse specialist. Methods: Questionnaire to survey the understanding of nurse specialist in PICU medical staff. Results: Generally, medical staff thought nurses to perform advanced practice were nurse specialists (97.97%), expected their qualifications at bachelor and above, with good communication skills, ability of teamwork, research skills. Nurse specialist can expect to solve difficult patient care problems and guide the work of nurses in clinical practice, have the power and responsibility only next to nurse, and should have beds distribution rights, responsible for the overall management, no specific charge of beds. Conclusions: On current situation it's necessary to setup nurse specialist related system such as accreditation of qualification, standardization and standardized training system, job evaluation system to ensure the credibility and effectiveness of the system of specialist nurses in clinical practice.
